The Eleventh Doctor

Saturday, 8 May, 2010

I am a fairly new Doctor Who fan, in the scheme of things.  I only started watching with the Ninth Doctor, who I enjoyed.  Having seen of the episodes that featured the Ninth Doctor, and all the episodes that featured the Tenth doctor, I was a bit skeptical of the Eleventh Doctor.

I began to enjoy the Eleventh Doctor, while mourning the loss of the Tenth when he regenerated.  I missed the first episode of the new series, but managed to catch the second and third when they aired on BBC America.

I immediately enjoyed the series, and it was just like the new Doctor was the Doctor I was watching all along.  The second episode, “The Beast Below” was amazing to me.  It featured the creepy-looking Smilers, and the newest in a long line of English monarchs.  The next episode hearkened back to older, titles, showing the Doctor’s arch-nemeses, the Daleks.

Tonight’s new episode, “The Time of the Angels”, set the bar for me though!  This episode included some interesting characters from the earlier series: River Song, a woman who knows a lot about the Doctor’s future, and some of the scariest creatures that the Doctor has ever had to face: the Weeping Angels.

For anyone who has seen the original episode feature the Weeping Angels, known as “Blink”, you know how creepy these damned things are.  In the new episodes (and the following, it seems) these Angels just get creepier and creepier.

The episode was great, terrifying, and has ended in a cliffhanger.  I am ready for the story to continue, but will have to wait until next week.  I am sure this is going to be just as creepy, and just as well done.

I am going to try to sleep now, but I may have nightmares.
